The San Francisco 49ers are hoping to get a few of their key injured players back relatively soon. Wide receivers Christian Kirk and Deebo Samuel Sr. could return to game action if not this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons then during their following contest versus the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 8. In addition, star defensive end Nick Bosa is hoping to return soon from a calf injury that he suffered shortly after the team's Week 2 win over the Miami Dolphins.

But even though their defensive front has been depleted by injuries, the Niners have performed well on that side of the football. New defensive coordinator Raheem Morris has changed things up, and a number of their young players have shown improvement under Morris.

One such player is rookie defensive lineman Romello Height, and as one reporter noted, he ranks very high in the NFL in one key metric.

Per Doug Clawson of CBS Sports , Height is fifth in the NFL among edge rushers in pass-rush win rate at 29% this season, according to ESPN Analytics.

Obviously, no one statistic is the end-all be-all of measuring excellence in any area, and every advanced stat measures things a little differently. According to ESPN , its pass rush win rate metric "tells us how often a pass rusher is able to beat/win his block within 2.5 seconds." It doesn't take into account actual sacks, quarterback hits, interceptions or incomplete passes, but it is one measure of how effective an edge rusher is in winning his matchups snap by snap.

On the season, Height has 1.5 sacks, five QB hits and six total tackles (three solo). Bosa's injury has given the third-round draft pick a chance to play and prove himself.

In addition to Height ranking high in this metric, the Niners' Osa Odighizuwa is tied for sixth in pass rush win rate among defensive tackles at 20%. The team acquired him this offseason from the Dallas Cowboys in order to beef up the interior of its defensive line and generate more pressure from the inside.

The six-year veteran has two sacks, seven QB hits, two tackles for loss, one pass defended and 12 total tackles (four solo) this season.

Last year, San Francisco was by far last in sacks with 20. So far this year, it ranks just 16th with 15 sacks, but that is a major improvement, and that ranking can only improve if the team gets healthier and avoids additional key injuries.
