Where they're going they don't need no stinkin' touchdowns.

I mean, like, for real. They have the second best point differential at +51 with the Niners being the only team better at +58. They don't need TDs when they have nearly 30 less points allowed than the next closest team.

We have Will the Thrill. Touchdowns are only a detriment to his MVP campaign

I grabbed both him and the Vikings defense on my waiver wire. I have no clue why they were both there, but they are literally saving by season. And there is a freaking Vikings fan in the league.

Dude probably risked it when they were on bye.

Although I didn’t pick up both because I also had Jefferson and I wasn’t sure how detrimental it might be to have a third if you’re starting lineup B from one team.In my league, both were still available prior to the buy or the only reason I didn’t pick up the Vikings kicker at the time. Although I didn’t pick up both because I also had Jefferson and I wasn’t sure how detrimental it might be to have a third if you’re starting lineup be from one team. The real bummer was that someone also picked up Schrader before I could grab them?

I picked both up after week 1 and held through the bye. That’s my rb1 and WR2 right there

I mean, it genuinely makes sense - if you have so much confidence that your D will keep the opponent off the scoreboard, it makes perfect sense to call a very conservative offense that avoids big turnovers that would put the D in a bad spot (they're T4 in fewest turnovers) - just chip away with lots of FGs and the occasional TD.

and to be fair, they may be 31st in TDs, but they're 23rd in points per game, and they're 13th in percent of drives ending in points of some kind (at 40.3% - that's better than teams like BAL, SEA, and LAR) so they may not be racking up TDs, but they're just grinding things down knowing their D won't let the opponent keep up with the slow and steady approach

(for comparison to those LAC - they're 32nd in TDs, 32nd in points, 32nd in drives ending in a points. The teams are not facing the same issues offensively)

There's also somenuance missing in these stats where the vikings just don't need to score at the end of games. Hockenson kneeled on the 1 against the dolphins so they could victory formation their way out of the game. It's likely if some of their opponents could score more that they would be pushing the ball downfield at the end of games instead of just running out the clock. Teams like the bills and lions are having to score all the way to the end of the game, while the vikings just play at their own pace

Yes, but then I also don't understand why we're throwing it repeatedly at the end of the Colts game instead of trying to run out the last few minutes. KOC has had me scratching my head on some decisions this year.

10. u/Skoma · 2026-10-27 19:04 UTC

Your logic is absolutely sound.

However, I watch every game and we are absolutely not playing ot safe with conservative playcalling on offense. This is the most concerned I've ever been with KOCs play calling. Double screen passes with Jefferson throwing directly to a defender who drops it. We're running flea flickers when we can't hit a slant. Jones is sacrificing his body blocking on these long developing plays too.

It's interesting at least.

At only the right time will we reveal the ultimate Will Reichard play for a touchdown. He is biding his time.

12. u/Specialist_Seal · 2026-10-27 17:35 UTC

His FG fake touchdown run in the Superbowl will be the stuff of legends.

Yall are priming the fuck outta another Wide Right, boys.

14. u/HughManatee · 2026-10-27 18:53 UTC

Don't you put that evil on us!

15. u/AnthaIon · 2026-10-27 15:48 UTC

All 4th quarter points this year against us add up to… 3. Total. I’d obviously prefer we win every game by 40, but the stranglehold of this defense is undeniable.

16. u/That_Murph · 2026-10-27 15:53 UTC

I love me some punishing defense. It sucks that so many people see defensive dominance as a boring game of bad offense.

I wonder how much of the Vikings offensive struggles can be attributed to just not needing to take risks for points. If you're giving away points you need to score high so you do things that are potentially dangerous because the payoff is a win. When you don't give out points you just don't need to do that because you can get that win regardless. It doesn't look like y'all are giving the ball away, just not coming away with TDs

17. u/Crazy_Syco · 2026-10-27 16:28 UTC

Definitely some truth to what you are saying, KOC is calling games very conservatively this year. Our run rate is significantly higher than any of his previous years, we are perfectly fine settling for FGs, and when we have the lead we love burning clock.

However, the offense is still pretty bad even if you favorably factor those in. They have yet to get in to a rhythm for back to back drives, and it seems to me like they need to open it up more if they want to offense to start clicking.

Good thing we have some tough matchups coming up where they’ll probably be forced to do that. They can show they can be competent to good when needed, or that they suck and we’re gonna struggle against complete playoff teams.

18. u/DemonSlyr007 · 2026-10-27 18:00 UTC

My hopium is its been intentional to keep what this offense can do under wraps so there isnt tape of it for when we need to win the most.

Im huffing grade AAA hopium boss

19. u/BayHarborButcher10 · 2026-10-27 16:38 UTC

It’s a mix. We are absolutely trying to keep long drives going to keep the defense rested, but not getting in the endzone is absolutely not intentional and something that needs to be fixe

Definitely.

There are some games where the offense just sucks and it's boring.

But good defense? Love me some good defense. Low scoring games that are because the defense is balling out and just stifling everything are a joy to watch.
